Hoi An, a clothing and architectural wonder.

Posted on July 6, 2010 by admin

We liked the dogs in Hoi An because they were not being eaten by the locals although this one is definitely fat enough!
Fishing boats at anchor for the night.
Food on the train was not so good.
We drank beer.
Food in town was amazing!

The wiring was a little sub-standard.
The architecture is an amzing mix of french colonial and traditional vietnamese.

These old ladies posed for me on the street and then made me buy a bannana which I am sure I paid too much for. They could have sold me a used motor scooter as well, they were very sweet and about 3ft tall.
Official and unofficial street signs.

Quick side trip to the ruins of temples that pre-date the complex at Angkor in Cambodia.

The site was hit by stray bombs during the war and suffered extensive damage.

This site was in ruins and overgrown compared to what we saw in Cambodia.

Back in town I was a bit taken by the roof lines and ended up making way too many images of them.

Great tableaux of caged song birds and fading paint.

Temples dot the street scape and are a nice break from the busy shopping areas.

Modern in-fill construction that actually looks quite good.
It maintains the historic scale, style and paint schemes.
Just in case you were looking to do a bit of shopping.
It rained quite a bit.
